I think audiences back in 1984 just weren"t ready for that Dune. To me its the only Dune. And I love it. I guess the people back then wanted more spoon fed to them like todays audiences. Dane rescue. Love the skullet he was sporting there. For the life of me I can"t figure out why everyone keeps mentioning the extended Universe books by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson. I very clearly stated that this video deals with the original Dune books. Patrick Stewart looks exactly the same 40 years hence. Amazing.

Dune restaurant fort lauderdale. I first started reading Dune back in the 70s, and I have been reading it every year or two ever since. Its the best science fiction work I have ever read. David Lynchs movie was the best version so far. He got the characters right. Kyle McLaughlin was perfect as Paul. The problem with his movie was it tried to cram too much into one movie. The Syfy channel miniseries was better in terms of giving it the time the book deserved, but the characters were mostly wrong: Paul was cast as kind of a brat. He was impatient and annoyed and didnt have the awareness and intelligence that that character was supposed to have. Not to mention they cast an actor with blond hair! Leto was all wrong as William hurt. Chani In the book is described as elf like, and yet they cast this big thick girl to play that role. Again, David Lynchs casting was spot on for that character as well. Im kind of forgetting some of the other characters in the mini series now, but I thought they cast the baron pretty good, although he wasnt quite evil enough— but again, David Lynch gave us an appropriately evil, creepy, gross character as the baron. I hope there is a new adaptation of Dune. Two movies sounds perfect.

Better do it justice... I read the books and was in love with Dune.

A youtube video without raging hateful comments. this is the future. I live in New Orleans and I live near a restaurant/cafe called Fiorella"s. It is run by Italian and African Americans. People of all backgrounds (working-class, ethnic groups, etc) attend it and people all get along. It is the exact opposite of this movie.

It"s been a pleasure frequenting your establishment. I say that every damn time I leave a convenience store now because of this movie. As i say i mite have given it another mark if but i feel it goes on for a bit too long and, mainly, Mr Lee"s decision to cast himself in what one might consider the main role. His acting(especially when surrounded by Esposito, Davis etc) is sub-par and it turned a great movie into a good one. Like Tarantino after him, he seems to be a director who wants to make it as an actor as well. They are two talented writer/directors but not actors, i am sorry to say (at least QT designated smaller roles to himself by the way. All the other actors were fine,especially Tutturro, who shone, though that is praise to Lee"s writing that he can create a character like that, one which seems to be full of hate but is not just "the bad guy. Apart from that i felt (as a white Englishman) it transposed me into that world very well with touches of humour, sentiment and tragedy.

I have a question: what"s the difference on putting a price on a human"s life and calculating how much time one person should spend in jail due to a crime he/she committed?  In this class, they start debating: can we put a price on human life? and everybody seems so shy while debating, however, our society does a similar calculation everyday: how much time one must spend in jail because he stole somethingo or murdered someone, etc.  How do we calculate that one person must spend 2 years in prison for theft? How do we decide that one must spend 30 years in prison for murder? How do we get to this numbers? To my view, calculating how much time one should spend jail due to a certain felony or misdemeanor is pretty much the same discussion as putting a price on somebody"s life.

This movie is entertaining, funny, disturbing, but most importantly, it makes you think. Did Mookie and the other characters "do the right thing" You could watch this movie with a few friends and then stay up all night discussing the topic of race, did certain individuals act the right way, what did certain actions mean, and what was to objective of certain actions(like throwing the garbage can through the window. At the end of the night everyone wouldn"t agree, but the conversation would be beneficial to all. Not many movies have that kind of impact. The movie, perhaps unfortunately, is timeless. We watched it in class due to current events compelling a change in what movie we were going to watch. The similarities between the movie and what we are seeing in the news is disturbing and shows we still have a long way to go before we can say we are doing the right thing.
